What Is Perplexity Computer? How to Turn AI Research Into Real Workflows
Perplexity Computer plans multi-step tasks, searches with citations, uses connectors and builds reports. Here is how it works, what credits cost and how to check its sources.

The short answer
Perplexity Computer is Perplexity's agent: you describe an outcome and it splits the job into subtasks, searches the web, uses connected apps and produces documents, dashboards or sites. It launched to Max subscribers only in February 2026 and reached Pro and Enterprise plans in March, so today it needs a paid plan plus credits, at Perplexity's current rate of 100 credits for $1. Citations help you check its work, but they do not prove that every cited page supports every claim.

01 / The story
What is Perplexity Computer?
Perplexity introduced Computer on February 25, 2026 as a system that breaks a goal into tasks and subtasks, creates sub-agents and runs work in the background. Sub-agents may do web research, write documents, process data or call connected services. At launch it was open only to Max subscribers, with Perplexity saying Pro access was coming soon. [1]
It reached all Pro subscribers on web and iOS on March 12, 2026, alongside Enterprise availability and a Slack integration, so access today spans Pro, Max and Enterprise plans. [2] Help pages now cover plugins, which bundle connectors and skills, plus custom plugins imported from GitHub, email tasks and publishing websites. [3]
Searching, summarizing, planning and acting are different levels of trust. A search returns sources; a summary interprets them; a plan decides steps; an action through a connector changes something in another app. Check each level more carefully than the one before.
02 / The story
What does it cost?
Computer runs on credits. Perplexity's help center gives the rate as today's price of 100 credits for $1 and lists typical ranges: 15–70 credits for a quick fact or definition, 350–950 for a multi-step research report, 2,400–9,800 for a data dashboard and 15,000 or more for a whole app. Perplexity calls these examples, not guarantees, and says the rate and ranges can change, so check the credit table again before you budget. [4]
Paid consumer Pro plans include a weekly amount of Computer usage before credits are used, while Max and Enterprise plans include monthly credits and higher limits; that weekly allowance is not part of promotional or non-paying Pro plans and is still rolling out. [4] [5] Connector availability and enterprise features also differ by plan. Plan prices vary by region and billing period, so check the official pricing page rather than relying on a figure here.
At the rate published on the checked date, a 950-credit report would cost about $9.50 in credits. That is simple arithmetic on Perplexity's published range, not a measured cost.

What can you realistically use it for?
Documented uses lean toward research-heavy work that ends in a file, table or summary.
- Researching a topic with cited sources you can open.
- Comparing software products on features and listed prices.
- Preparing a sourced market or competitor brief.
- Turning a CSV into charts and an executive summary. [2]
- Building a structured report or slide deck.
- Running a recurring briefing, for example a weekly industry update. [6]
- With Enterprise connectors, querying tools such as Salesforce, Snowflake or HubSpot — connector availability and enterprise features differ by plan. [6]

Example: a sourced software comparison, step by step
This is an illustrative workflow based on the documentation; Qlauson did not run it for this article.
The final check matters most. A citation shows where the system looked, not that the page says exactly what the summary claims.
- 1. Define the question: which three project-management tools suit a five-person team under a set budget?
- 2. List the criteria in advance: price per seat, integrations, mobile app, data export.
- 3. Ask Computer to research each tool and fill a comparison table with one source per cell.
- 4. Open every pricing source and confirm the figure and its date.
- 5. Ask it to flag any cell it could not source, rather than guessing.
- 6. Edit the summary yourself and record the date checked.

How to check AI research before you trust it
Read the original source for every number, quote and legal or medical claim. Prefer official documentation and primary data over blogs that repeat them.
Watch for three common failures: a citation that supports only part of a sentence, an outdated page treated as current, and two sources that both copy the same original. Our guide on how to evaluate AI models explains why testing on your own questions beats trusting a general claim.

Privacy, permissions and limitations
Connectors give Computer access to accounts such as email, calendars or company data. Connect only what the task needs and use organization controls where you have them. Perplexity also supports custom API credentials for services without a built-in connector; treat those keys as secrets and limit their scope. [3]
For Personal Computer, which runs on a dedicated Mac mini, Perplexity says sensitive actions require approval and sessions keep an audit trail; it opened as a waitlist in March 2026. [7] Long jobs can use many credits, so set a budget before starting. For agent risks in general, see AI agents and computer access security.

Perplexity Computer vs a chatbot or a coding agent
A chatbot answers in conversation. Computer plans and runs multi-step jobs in the background. A coding agent such as OpenAI Codex is centered on files and repositories. Choose by the output you need: an answer, a researched deliverable, or a change to a project. Our AI agents vs chatbots guide explains the decision in more detail.

Qlauson Team: evidence and practical limits
Sources reviewed October 22, 2026. This is a documentation-based guide, not a hands-on product test: Qlauson did not run the workflows described here, and example inputs and outputs are illustrative.
We did not run a paid Computer task for this article; credit ranges and features come from Perplexity's own help center and announcements.
On an October 22, 2026 review we added the access history (Computer launched to Max subscribers only and reached Pro and Enterprise in March), re-read the credit table against Perplexity's live help center, and marked the 100-credits-for-$1 rate and the task ranges as current examples that Perplexity can change.
Features, prices, plan names and availability change often. Check the linked official pages before you buy, connect accounts or rely on an output. This is educational information, not legal, security or financial advice, and not an endorsement.
Checked October 22, 2026: Cover logo: none. Perplexity's brand guidelines (https://live.standards.site/perplexity/logo) give design rules and downloadable files but no stated permission for third-party publishers, and direct partners to request access, so permission is unclear and the cover stays an original illustration.
