The short answer

Rockstar says GTA VI launches November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, priced at $79.99 (standard) and $99.99 (Ultimate Edition) in the US. Rockstar has not announced a PC version, so there is no official PC release date and no official PC system requirements. Anything claiming otherwise is a rumor until Rockstar says so.

01 / The story

Why everyone is talking about GTA VI

Grand Theft Auto VI is the first new main game in the series since GTA V in 2013. That gap, plus GTA V's huge long-term sales, makes GTA 6 one of the most searched games of 2026. People mostly ask four things: when it comes out, what it runs on, how much it costs, and whether it will come to PC.

This guide answers those questions using Rockstar's own announcements first, then clearly labeled reporting from established outlets. Where something is not confirmed, we say so. GTA VI is rated for mature audiences; this article covers the technology and release facts, not the game's content.

02 / The story

The presentations: trailers and official reveals

Rockstar did not hold a live stage event like a car or phone launch. Instead, it revealed GTA VI through trailers and announcements. Trailer 1 arrived in December 2023 and introduced the setting, Vice City in the fictional state of Leonida, and the two lead characters, Jason and Lucia. Trailer 2 followed in May 2025, alongside the official website's character and location pages.

In 2026 Rockstar announced pre-orders, which opened on June 25, 2026, and BBC News reported that a launch trailer confirmed the November 19 date again and revealed that French electronic duo Justice composed the original score. Sony's PlayStation store page also hosts an 'extended look' that it describes as captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5.

03 / The story

GTA VI graphics: what the footage actually shows

The official trailers show dense crowds, detailed beaches and swamps, realistic sunlight and reflections, wet surfaces, and natural-looking character faces and movement. Rockstar and Sony describe the footage as captured in-game, which means it comes from the game itself rather than separate animated movies.

What trailers cannot prove is just as important. A trailer does not tell you the frame rate, the exact resolution, whether specific ray-tracing features are on, or how the game performs on every console model. Those details are usually confirmed only by the developer or measured by independent testers after launch. Sony's store page lists the game as 'PS5 Pro Enhanced', but the exact improvements on PS5 Pro have not been fully detailed by Rockstar.

  • Confirmed by official pages: in-game captured footage, PS5 Pro Enhanced label, fast SSD loading and DualSense haptics on PS5.
  • Not confirmed: specific frame rates, resolutions, or ray-tracing modes per console.

GTA VI gameplay: Jason, Lucia and Leonida

According to Rockstar, GTA VI is a single-player story about Jason and Lucia, a pair who end up in a criminal conspiracy across Leonida after 'an easy score goes wrong'. The setting is modern-day Vice City and surrounding areas, which Rockstar presents as the biggest and most immersive world in the series so far.

Rockstar has also said digital pre-orders include a free month of GTA+, its subscription for GTA Online. Rockstar has not fully detailed how a future online mode for GTA VI will work, so treat claims about it as unconfirmed.

05 / The story

GTA 6 release date, platforms and price

Rockstar and Take-Two state that GTA VI launches November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game was delayed twice before that: first from a fall 2025 window, then from May 26, 2026. Sony's store notes it is not playable on PlayStation 4.

In the US, Take-Two's press release lists $79.99 for the standard edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. Reporting by T3 lists £69.99 / €79.99 for the standard edition in the UK and Europe. Pre-orders and purchases before November 20, 2026 include a Vintage Vice City Pack. Rockstar says players can pre-load from November 12. Prices can vary by store, region and sales, so check the store you buy from.

EditionUS priceWhat's extra
Standard$79.99Base game; Vintage Vice City Pack if bought before Nov 20, 2026
Ultimate Edition$99.99Extra in-game vehicles, weapons, outfits and story-linked content

GTA 6 PC release: what Rockstar has and hasn't said

As of October 16, 2026, Rockstar's official platform information lists only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not announced a PC version, a PC release date, or a PC price. BBC News also reports there is no news on a PC version, and that a Nintendo Switch 2 version is unknown.

Many players expect a PC version eventually because GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 both reached PC after their console launches. That is a reasonable pattern to note, but it is not confirmation. Any website quoting a specific 'GTA 6 PC release date' today is repeating a rumor or a guess.

07 / The story

GTA 6 system requirements: why nobody can give real ones yet

Official PC system requirements come from the developer, usually when a PC version is announced. Because Rockstar has not announced one, there are no official GTA VI system requirements. Lists you see online are fan estimates, often based on other games.

For consoles you do not need requirements: the game is built for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Do plan for storage space, since physical copies use a download code. Rockstar has not published a final install size in the sources we checked.

What to watch, including 2027

The next official updates are likely to be launch-week details: install size, any day-one patch, and independent technical analysis of how the game runs on each console.

Disclaimer for 2027: nothing here predicts a PC launch in 2027 or later. Rockstar has not announced a PC version as of October 2026. If one is announced, its date, price and system requirements will come from Rockstar, and this article will be updated.

Practical notes for players

If you only have a PC, the honest advice is to wait. Buying hardware 'for GTA 6' before Rockstar publishes PC specifications means guessing. Rockstar's past games did come to PC later, but past patterns are not a promise.

If you pre-order, check the edition. The Ultimate Edition's extras are in-game items, not extra platforms. Rockstar says physical copies contain a download code rather than the full game on disc, so you still need an internet connection and storage space.

Beware of scams. Fake 'GTA 6 PC download' sites, fake beta keys, and 'early access' offers are common around big launches. Only buy from Rockstar, PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, or well-known retailers.
